Why Pets Are Getting Sicker

Doggy doctorThe Body Healer is not just for humans!  Our pets are a very important part of the family, and just as a natural approach to diet and healthcare is important for us, it is also important for our furry friends.  Taking a more natural and non-invasive approach to pet care is about keeping an open mind and being willing to explore natural possibilities to keeping our pets healthy.

Processed pet food is as bad for our pet's health as processed human food is for ours, and their skyrocketing rates of chronic disease mirror ours as both food chains become heavily industrialized and contaminated.  Pet medications have their side effects, just as human medications do.  Common flea and tick medications cause both severe and subtle reactions in thousands of pets each year (...Read more).  A lack of exercise affects a pet's health and well-being just as it affects ours.

CANCER
Cancer now affects a staggering 1 in 3 dogs.
Almost 50% of all dogs over the age of 10 will develop cancer.

HEART DISEASE
10% of dogs suffer from heart disease.

DIABETES
The number of dogs diagnosed with diabetes has
more than tripled in the last 30 yrs, affecting 1 in 160 dogs.(1)

OBESITY
An estimated 54% of dogs and cats in
the US (93 million) are overweight or obese.(2)

Why are pets suffering the same types of illnesses we do?

"3 of the biggest killers, namely heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, are entirely preventable through diet - for both humans and pets."

Just as the average American is getting fatter and sicker, so are the pets they own, and for the same reasons.  The genetics of a dog is 80-90% similar to that of humans.  There is a direct correlation between the decline in our pets health and the quality of their diet and environment.  If they live in our homes, breathe the same air, walk on the same pesticide-ridden grass we do, drink the same water, and eat similar types of highly processed foods (the ingredients may differ but the processing and denaturing is the same), then it stands to reason they will suffer the same diseases we do.

Our environment, what we all put into our mouths, and what we put onto our skins - pet or human - play the most important factors.  Heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, are entirely preventable through diet - for humans and for pets.  The cleaner and healthier our diet and environment, the healthier both our bodies and the bodies of our pets are.

“Dogs in this country get as many cancers as people, if not more" says genomics professor Matthew Breen, who has been conducting research on canine cancer in his lab at the North Carolina State University Center for Comparative Medicine & Translational Research (CCMTR).

Obesity

Pet obesity has become a serious problem - and it is an ENTIRELY PREVENTABLE one.  You may be thinking, "so, what's the big deal?  a few extra pounds here or there can't be that bad, can it?"  Yes, it can.  Just like humans, pets who are overweight or obese have higher risks of the following:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Insulin resistance & type 2 diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart & respiratory disease
  • Cranial cruciate ligament injury
  • Kidney disease
  • Many forms of cancer
  • Decreased life expectancy (up to 2.5 years)
